Halloween 2009

I am not a fan of trunk or treats.  Although I have attended them in the past and I did attend one this year (so I could see some friends in our previous neighborhood.)
I like the way our new neighborhood does things.  On Thursday before Halloween they had an activity at the church.  Chili for dinner and games for the kids afterwards.  It was fun, especially for the kids.  And when the kids are happy, I'm happy.
I made these cupcakes for the "cake walk".  One of the games the kids could play.

On Friday we went trick or treating at Chad's work.  One of Chad's coworkers gave the boys way tooo much candy.  Oh well, I'm enjoying it too.
Ben was Spiderman for Halloween.

And Jack was a Jack-in-the box.
(A $3 clown costume from DI, a box, some spray paint, and a handle made by my dad out of things he just had around.)

For breakfast on Halloween I made pumpkin pancakes.  It's a tradition now.

And I carved oranges to look like pumpkins and filled them with fruit and yogurt.  The kids didn't like it.  They complained about it a lot.  Jack cried, Ben whined,  I don't know if I'll do that again.  But I guess Chad liked it, so I'll do it for him.

And for lunch-pumpkin grilled cheese sandwiches.

After going to the trunk-or-treat, we visited family then came back to our neighborhood for good old fashioned trick or treating.  It was funny when the first three house we went to just left buckets of candy out on the front porch.
More fun that trick-or-treating with the boys was watching how excited they got when trick-or-treaters came to our house.

The doorbell would ring.
Jack would say in his cute little voice-
"somebody's here."
Ben would run to get the bowl of candy.
Jack would run and try to open the door.
He couldn't open it, so he would knock on the inside of the door and say,
"knock, knock."
Chad or I would open the door so Ben could give the kids some candy.

They did this everytime.  Definately a memory I don't want to forget.  They were just soooo cute.
And here's a few more cute pictures-

Pumpkin Carving

Last week we carved pumpkins for Halloween. Jack wouldn't help scoop the guts out of the pumpkin. He told us it was "stinky."Ben didn't seem to mind.He got into it.And I helped him. Maybe he got a little too into it.
When Jack saw Ben stabbing the pumpkin. Jack thought he would help too.Jack's pumpkin.Ben's pumpkin. He drew a picture of what he wanted on a piece of paper and I helped him carve it.Chad suggested this fun little trick with the pumpkin. Turn it towards the wall-This was my pumpkin. I had plans for it that involved a drill and little while Christmas lights, but I didn't get to it this year. Oh well, my pumpkin looked pretty cool untouched with all those warts. I carved Chad's pumpkin for him. It was for work and I only did it for him because he was busy working. When the trick or treaters came by Chad heard one of them say, "somebody must really like coffee." Yes it's a coffee cup, but it's also the symbol for the programming language Java. Chad's pumpkin won the carving contest and now his team gets a pizza party.

Weekend Getaway

It's so nice not to have to work on the house every weekend. And thought there is still plenty we can do around here. There is nothing that absolutely has to be done. Fortunately nothing has broken yet. Knock on wood. For the past seven months, pretty much every weekend we were working on the house.
This weekend we took a trip up to Logan. We like going up there every once in a while. Some people think we are strange, they wonder what's in Logan. Lots of things and it's just pretty up there. On the way up, we of course stopped in Willard. Why Willard? Because that's where Fruit Way is. We stopped at a stand and bought some apples, onions, and popcorn on the cob. Chad thinks I am a little silly, but things like fresh local fruit and vegetables make me happy. And they are a good deal, that always makes me happy.

Next year we are thinking of driving up there to get our pumpkins for Halloween and doing other Halloweeny sort of things while we are up there. (Like go to a corn maze or something.) They have tons of different varieties of pumpkins.

While in Logan we spent a lot of time swimming at the hotel. Well Chad and Ben did. Jack and I only swam for a little while. We went to the cheese factory. Chad and I had a delicious dinner at Hamilton's. And we went to the North Logan Pumpkin Walk. What's a pumpkin walk? That's what I thought. Lots and lots of carved pumpkins and then people use pumpkins and squash to make up all different scenes. It's was pretty funny and more interesting that I thought it would be.

Because we are crazy

It's been over a month since I took pictures off my camera. It's not like I haven't sat down at the computer for the past month and a half. My computer time the past month and a half has mainly involved shopping for things for the house. I think blogging is one of the most productive things I can do with my computer time. I'm glad I'm almost done with shopping for things for the house, so I can catch up on some of the things we've done this summer.

Saturday the boys and I stopped at a fruit stand and bought peaches. By the time we were done Jack's arms and face were covered with yummy sweet peach juice. In my stupidity I cleaned him up with a wipe. I should have licked that yummy nummy juice off his yummy arms and face.
Mmmm, it's peach season. Besides the yummy nummy peaches it's a sign that it will soon be fall. With the refreshing cooler weather lately there has been a tinge of autumn in the air. It hasn't been a long hot summer (hooray) but it's been long enough and although I'm sure there are still hot days to come, autumn isn't far off.
For a couple of years in my young teens, in the fall, my mom would wake my siblings and I up insanely early so we could go see the Autumn Aloft Balloon Festival in Park City. I remember being pretty 'teenagish' and complaining incessantly about the early time and that my feet turned to ice cubes, but every year I would go despite the fact that I was old enough to stay home by myself. We only went a few years before it was cancelled, but it was enjoyable.

This weekend was the balloon festival in Eden. Here's a pictures of the boys at 6:00am.
After going to bed at midnight I woke up at 4:00am to get ready to go.
We are glad we went up. The boys loved it! Especially Jack. One of Jack's first words was balloon (although it was pronounced something like-blblblblbl).

(Me and Ben two years ago at the Festival. I felt as big as a balloon as Jack was born six days later.)

The weather was perfect and gorgeous. There's just something amazing about being so close to watch them set the balloons up, fill them, and take off. Thanks to Chad I've had the opportunity to fly in a hot air balloon. It an awesome experience, but I still just love watching them. And I loved that the boys loved this despite the early time.
Oh ya, and besides my cute boys, there were balloons-

I don't know why I find it so fascinating and awe inspiring, I just do. It was worth it to get up early, but I'm thinking next year I want to go to the evening balloon glow.

(not my picture-I borrowed it from here.)
